Standing · Upper back

Bent-Over Wide Row

A row with the elbows out wide to target the upper back and the back of the shoulders.

How to do it

  1. Stand on the middle of the EZband, feet hip-width apart, holding one side in each hand with palms facing behind you.
  2. Soften your knees and hinge slightly forward from the hips with a long, flat back.
  3. Pull your hands up and back, letting your elbows travel out to the sides, until they're about level with your shoulders.
  4. Squeeze your upper back, then lower slowly.
  5. Do 8–10 reps.

Form tips

  • Keep a small, comfortable lean — not a deep bend.
  • Lead with your elbows, not your hands.
  • Keep your shoulders away from your ears.

Using your EZband

Stand on the centre of the band. Choke up on the band for more resistance.

Beginner modifications

  • Do it upright, with no hinge.
  • Do it seated with the band under your feet.
  • Pull only partway up.

Safety notes

  • Skip the hinge if you have low-back pain.
  • Stop if you feel pinching on top of the shoulder.
